NFIRS PLUS 1 CODES

NFIRS defined codes cannot be modified per NFIRS specifications. However, NFIRS Plus 1 codes can be added and allow for an NFIRS base code to be further defined. An NFIRS Plus 1 code is typically created for internal fire department analysis use only and only the NFIRS base code is exported. In the rare case that a state dictates Plus 1 code use, the Plus 1 code can be exported instead of just the base code.

1.       On the ribbon bar, go to the Settings Tab.

2.       Click on the NFIRS +1 Codes ribbon bar button.

3.       Step 1: Select the NFIRS Dictionary – This is the NFIRS code list where the Plus 1 is to be added.

4.       Step 2: Select the specific code for the Plus 1 – When selecting the NFIRS base code to be added to, note that ALL NFIRS requirements of the base code will still be applicable.

5.       Step 3: Enter the Plus 1 Code and Text – Based on the selection in Step 2, FirePrograms will populate the NFIRS Code and a suggested Plus 1 Value which analyzes if Plus 1 Codes already exist. The Plus 1 Value can be changed but duplicates are not allowed. Enter the defining Text to appear with the Code Value. The Code Value + Text will be what appear in the list for user selection.

6.       Plus 1 code should be exported to NFIRS – ONLY check this box if directed by a State Authority. Exporting a Plus 1 code to NFIRS could result in an informational warning being returned from NFIRS every time this code is used in an incident report. Only in special circumstances should this box be checked. If you have any questions on this, please contact Support for advice.
